From Wednesday 2 July, Early Bird ticket sales started for the most fun night of the year: the Groninger Museumnacht. On Saturday 20 September between 19.00 and 01.00, you can visit no fewer than seven museums in the city of Groningen for just €8.50. The first parts of the programme have now been announced. Early Bird tickets can be ordered via tickets.groningermuseum.nl. Be quick, because gone = gone.

Museum Night is a household word in cultural Groningen. Visitors not only admire exhibitions and permanent presentations in the museums, but also enjoy a dazzling programme of music, workshops, lectures, dance, poetry and other performances.

Books, boats and beats

Meanwhile, the first programme elements have been announced. Together with Stichting De Best Verzorgde Boeken, GRID Grafisch Museum celebrates the best the graphic arts sector has to offer: books that are among the absolute best in terms of craftsmanship and care. In the Akerk, the winning designs as well as the student jury's selection will be presented. Or opt for a nightly romantic cruise on the A and Zuiderhaven: between Museum aan de A and the Groninger Museum, two historic ships sail back and forth, with music and poetry on board! At the Groninger Museum, Baby Berserk will perform. Known for their mix of music and fashion, Baby Berserk captures the raw energy of contemporary nightlife: the intensity of a live band combined with the drive of club music. There will also be music at the Synagogue Groningen. There you can enjoy the uplifting and sometimes melancholic sounds of the Bolotny Trio all evening long. Klezmer, tango, gypsy, light classical and jazz... A concert by the Bolotny Trio is a real experience!

Brains, tattoos and World Press Photo

There are exhibitions too, of course. With the exhibition ‘What Have We Done?’, Noorderlicht celebrates the 70th anniversary of World Press Photo. The exhibition shows viewers how images have shaped our understanding of the world; how certain visual style figures exist and how they continue to influence us. The “Brainstorm” exhibition at the University Museum is all about the human brain. Using four key brain functions: wanting, perceiving, thinking and doing, discover for yourself how your brain works. Forum Groningen shows the history and cultural significance of tattoos. Through unique objects, eye-catching ink creations, rare photos and impressive films, the international exhibition “Tattoo” shows the development of tattoos into a global art form. The Groninger Museum Night ends with a smashing party in the Akerk.

7 museums, 1 ticket

The night gives Groningers the chance to discover museums in an approachable and fun way. The event sells out every year and attracts a remarkably young crowd: the average age is between 20 and 35. This year, Early Bird tickets will be used again. The regular ticket price is €13.50. During the Groninger Museum Night, visitors exchange their ticket for a wristband that gives them access to all the museums. After the Museum Night, the wristband gives another free entry to one of the participating museums.

Groninger Museumnacht is a joint initiative of Forum Groningen/Storyworld, GRID Grafisch Museum in Akerk, Groninger Museum, Museum aan de A, Noorderlicht, Synagoge Groningen and Universiteitsmuseum. In addition, there is intensive cooperation with Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken, USVA and Noorderpoort.
