JEWISH GRONINGEN

Holocaust education
Holocaust education

The Holocaust (also called 'Shoah') is a dark chapter in our history. The impact is visible and palpable in Synagogue Groningen. We share the life stories of Jewish residents of Groningen who came into contact with Nazi terror.
Holocaust education is not only about knowing an event from the past, but also about understanding how discrimination and exclusion can arise and the responsibility people have to stand up against them. The Holocaust can make young people reflect on themes such as human rights, freedom, discrimination, and the protection of minorities. We offer project-based and structural programs within the framework of Holocaust education for various target groups.
Holocaust education with the CJP Culture Card
School year 2026-2027
All secondary schools participating in the CJP Culture Card receive an additional, earmarked budget for Holocaust education. This budget is in addition to the regular Culture Card budget and is intended to strengthen education about the Holocaust. The budget is made available by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) as part of the National Plan to Strengthen Holocaust Education. As a secondary school, you can fund your visit to the Groningen Synagogue with this budget.

Program
Through a program, students will acquire knowledge about the Holocaust and learn to reflect on exclusion, discrimination, and antisemitism.
Work on a new program for secondary education will begin in mid-2026.
Persecution & Freedom. Then and Now.
Synagogue Groningen offers the program 'Persecution & Freedom. Then and Now' for students in grades 7 and 8. Schools will be invited in mid-January to register for a future edition.
