Get to know the Jewish culture and the history of the Jewish community in Groningen. Our beautiful synagogue, built in 1906, offers guided tours, exhibitions and activities.

Jolanda Warners lives and works as an artist in the city of Groningen. Jolanda's work is predominantly expressive, conceptual, and intuitive in nature.

The theme for this exhibition is 'Ode and Interface'. Through this combined theme, Jolanda wishes to pay tribute to her mother and aunt. They lived in the Jewish quarter of Groningen and regularly attended the synagogue on Folkingestraat until they were placed with a foster family in the west of the province of Groningen during the Second World War. In this exhibition, Jolanda reflects on her family history, but also conveys subtle messages about and for the present.

On Wednesday evening 28 January, Synagogue Groningen will host a talk, provided by the renowned culinary historian Dr Hélène Jawhara Piñer. In her talk she will discuss her book Matzah and Flour (2024). "To eat is to remember", argues the author, who also works as educator and chef.
